Thanks to a recent bipartisan vote in Congress, the Advanced Clean Cars II (ACC II) rule—California’s aggressive push to ban gas-powered vehicles across much of the country—has been stopped. But states are already looking for new ways to pick up where ACC II left off, threatening to follow California’s lead with misguided mandates of their own.

 

We believe in a cleaner, more sustainable transportation future—but that future should be built through innovation, affordability, and consumer demand, not government coercion. Banning gas-powered cars won’t build more charging infrastructure. It won’t lower the cost of EVs. And it certainly won’t work for every driver, especially in rural and working-class communities where EV readiness is still years away.

Now more than ever, we need common-sense solutions that empower consumers, support American jobs, and invest in the future—without taking away the vehicles millions of people rely on every day.
